Norbert Flórián successfully defended his doctoral (PhD) dissertation at the Doctoral School of Landscape Architecture and Landscape Ecology of Szent István University on December 12, 2018.

World Soil Day is celebrated worldwide every year on 5 December. The campaign, organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, will highlight the importance of reducing soil pollution in 2018.

György Várallyay, academic and emeritus professor at the Institute of Soil Sciences and Agricultural Chemistry at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, died on 2 December 2018 at the age of 83.

This year, Imre Potyó, an employee of our institute, won the highest nature photographer award in Hungary, becoming the Nature Photographer of the Year for the first time.

On 27 September 2018, a conference was held to mark the 25th anniversary of the operation of the Soil Protection Information and Monitoring System (TIM) in the Darányi Ignác Hall of the Ministry of Agriculture, organized by the Plant, Soil and Agri-Environment Protection Directorate of the National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH).

The volume of the Natural Environment of the National Atlas of Hungary has been published, which was officially presented at the headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The staff of MTA ATK TAKI have also played a major role in the editing of the volume over the past five years.

The "EDAPHOLOG-System: system building and field testing" project has won the "Best LIFE-Environment Projects" award.
