Plant communication and mycorrhizal fungi

Plant communication and mycorrhizal fungi

Presenter: István Parádi, Department of Soil Biology, ELTE Department of Plant Physiology and Molecular Plant Biology

Plants have an active and dynamic relationship with their environment, interpreting and transmitting signals, "talking" to each other, even different species. Since entering land, approx. and for half a billion years they have been living with mycorrhizal fungi, with which, like other symbiont fungi and bacteria, they have developed an extensive and extremely well-regulated system of contacts, which also includes the exchange of information between them. The lecture attempts to provide a brief insight into the research of plant communication, which has long been supposed to be invisible and immeasurable, but which can be measured with modern scientific tools.
