TIM25 Conference

On 27 September 2018, a conference was held to mark the 25th anniversary of the operation of the Soil Protection Information and Monitoring System (TIM) in the Darányi Ignác Hall of the Ministry of Agriculture, organized by the Plant, Soil and Agri-Environment Protection Directorate of the National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH).

The event was opened by Márton Oravecz, Director of NÉBIH, and László Jordán, Deputy Chairman of NÉBIH Plant, Soil and Forest Protection.

Tamás Németh, academic, gave a detailed presentation on the creation and launch of TIM. József Szabó, Director of MTA ATK TAKI, reported on the current situation, difficulties and important role in the development of the soil protection strategy, while the future development opportunities and current issues of meeting the challenges of the 21st century were reported by Péter László, senior fellow of MTA ATK TAKI. We heard a unique presentation about the 40 years of soil protection laboratories by Sándor Kucsera, head of the Venice Soil Protection Lab. Erika Michéli, professor at SZIE, gave a lecture on the lessons learned from the processing of TIM data, in which she also spoke about the role of TIM data in the renewal of domestic soil classification. András Makó, senior fellow at MTA ATK TAKI, spoke about the importance of TIM's soil physics data, the foundations for the development of the MARTHA database and its international recognition. The TIM25 Jubilee Plaques were handed over by László Jordán and Tamás Németh to soil science and soil protection specialists, trainers and researchers who did essential work in the creation and maintenance of TIM.
