Dendrochronology is a scientific research method that goes beyond simple tree ring calculations, with which, in addition to the dating possibilities provided by tree ring databases, many environmental information can also be collected and analysed.

Brigitta Tóth, senior research fellow at the Institute of Soil Sciences and Agricultural Chemistry of MTA ATK, received the Academic Youth Award from László Lovász, President of the MTA, on 7 February 2019 at the Academy's Headquarters.

György Várallyay, academic and emeritus professor at the Institute of Soil Sciences and Agricultural Chemistry at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, died on 2 December 2018 at the age of 83.
